Jenn: The Lean, Mean Creative Machine
Editor's note: We challenged all of our finalists to "Write a blog: Writer’s choice: write about whatever suits your mood. "
Today was one of those days where I realized how much cool stuff I could do if maybe I could just...do stuff faster. Or grow a third arm? Or if I learned to not need to sleep or something...
Actually, sleep is pretty crazy. Did you know you can only go about about a week with absolutely no sleep before you start to go crazy and you will likely die after about a month? We basically need sleep even more immediately than we need food and water to survive. Fact.
Anyway, back to my foiled inspiration. Today I again remembered this idea for a comedy movie script I've had for a while, a totally random new website concept was hashed out with a coworker, and several things I wanted to sit down and draw were crawling through my coffee-addled mind. I am hyper-focused and totally zeroed in on the tasks I have to work on right now and yet my right-brain where all of my creativity lives is just crackling with this other random energy! I think it's at the times where you are working hard and pushing your limits in a healthy way that some of the best parts of your creative self start coming out.
It's important to go crazy, sometimes. A calculated sort of crazy. To learn how to take risks and to survive both the successes and the failures. The abilities to be creative and try scary new things are like muscles that need to be worked out. Sometimes you'll get stronger, and sometimes you'll tear yourself up, but you get better and learn more each time you use them if you're smart about it.
And if you don't use them at all, they will atrophy and get flabby. And then just weigh you down and become that much harder to get back into shape.
So what do you do to challenge yourself? To keep your passion hot and lean and your mind sharp and sexy?
Jenn
