Campbell House Museum
WHEW, guys! This has been a crazy week and a half getting started as the new Young & Free Spokester! Thus why I'm posting my first video on a Saturday...I've been learning so much as I'm getting settled in!
My first video is a poke at a series I am thinking about doing highlighting places to go and stuff to do around St. Louis that you may not have known about.
My first stop was the Campbell House Museum which is a beautiful Victorian house downtown right off of Locust just a block over from Washington avenue! It was built in the mid 1800s by an Irishman, Robert Campbell, who immigrated here to build a new life and did so quite successfully in our city.
Shelley, the Assistant Director of the museum, connected with me on Twitter some time ago and has just become a great friend to chat with and a great resource for learning about one of the lesser known landmarks we have here. She was kind enough to invite me to their lovely open house party last week and met with me again yesterday for some more information!
(Bear with me, you'll learn that I am a big geek for St. Louis, our roots and the ways we are now innovating and progressing. You may be getting a lot of history and current events from me as we take this little journey together this year!)
Here are some other random things I've learned this week:
- Microphones really DO serve a purpose! Derp! Expect to see more microphones in the future...
- There are about 50 bajillion ways to export a video and some of them have really unfavorable results!
- I apparently have a bit of a temper when technological things aren't going my way. I'll make sure to stay holed up in a dark room when dealing with such so no one gets hurt...
Thanks for hanging with me while I'm settling in and getting the groove! Please check out the video and let me know what you think - good, bad AND ugly, even - (gotta keep learning!) and let me know what you think of the St. Louis Spotlight idea.
Also, please check out the Campbell House Museum on Facebook and Twitter and see what's up with them!
What sorts of spotlights would you like to see next?
