Jamie's current situation:
I am excited about this awesome job opportunity! I liive in Troy, but will be moving to St. Peters soon! I will be 25 in October so technically this could be the first and last time I can apply. But with age comes wisdom and I’m ready to help everyone get connected and create blogs that will help my viewers financially. I am a full time student, will be getting my BA in Elementary Education, hopefully get a teaching position in the Fall, and then start on my Masters. Today a Masters seems like the new Bachelors Degree! The reason it has taken me this long to graduate is because I was paying rent and needed a full time job to keep doing so. Because of that I have gained tons of banking experience! I was a teller and also helped in the loans department. I enjoyed talking with all different ages and types of people! Previous to that job I have worked as a server and as a teacher at a learning center. I have a servants heart and when anyone is in need I step in and help, for example at Raging Rivers yesterday I saved a boy who was going under while everyone, even the lifeguards, stood around. When people are in need I do my best to help them out! Add me on Facebook, Twitter, Skype, and yeah I still have a Myspace account ;)
Jamie's blog post:
I noticed in most of the blogs that everyone was talking about the free or cheap activities to do around Saint Louis. Those were good ideas but what if you don’t have a good savings record then you don’t have money to spend on those activities, let’s face it “There Is No Such Thing As A Free Lunch” You might have to pay for parking, drinks, food, etc. I’m here to offer a savings suggestion that was passed down from my older sister to me! We call it the Envelope Method
Here’s what you need:
- Envelopes
- Writing Utensil
- Money
Here’s what you do:
Step 1: Separate the envelopes into piles and label. Most common would be Tithing, gas, food, bills, (you could even make separate envelopes for your different types of bills phone, rent, car, school, etc.) miscellaneous, shopping… Whatever you think of!
Step 2: Also label how much you want to put away from each source of income. Tithing might be 10% gas 10%, food 20%, bills 50%, and the rest you can leave in your Free Vantage Credit Union account!
Step 3: Each time you get your paycheck go to Vantage Credit Union, cash the check, and right away put back the % into your account. Take the rest of the cash home, and put the cash into the separate envelopes, if you have to use a calculator that’s fine also! :)
Step 4: Here is the tough part….From now on you can only use the money from the envelope towards the activity it is marked for. You can’t take money from “food” and use it for “shopping” You may tell yourself, “Hey I’ll replace it!” But the reality is you probably won’t!
This method may sound challenging, but life is challenging and getting into great financial habits while you are young will help you tremendously in the future! My sister has been using this method for years and at 32 she is debt free, owns her own condo, car, and other properties that she can rent to others. She has done all of that on her own, which is quite the accomplishment!
Saint Louis what are you waiting for? Let this be the greatest year of your life without having to worry about money problems! Vote for me and together we can make it happen!
