TEN WAYS TO TURN GREEN~~
As a young college student you have a lot to stress about and tons of worries. Something that I worry about is our earth. Visions of the oil spill are still vibrant in my mind. The gushing of the oil drove me crazy every time I saw it on the news, and the poor animals that suffered. Although I cannot do anything about that, there are some things we can do to save our earth. I know you can’t go green over night, but you can just follow these ten simple steps and help our earth. If we can get more people to do these simple steps we can all make a difference to our world!
1. BYOB! Bring Your Own Bag to the grocery store! Bags our made from oil and this will reduce our use of foreign oil. Also marine animals eat the plastic which kills them and even get caught in plastic. Remember the beautiful photo you took with the plastic bag stuck in the tree? Reducing the use of plastic bags will help the litter problem in our environment.
2. Try not to buy plastic if at all possible, especially bottled water from the grocery store. Instead fill up your own water bottle with tap or filtered water.
3. If you’r going to Starbucks bring your own coffee cup! Styrofoam never breaks down!
4. Shop at garage sales, thrift stores, Craigslist or better yet, check the curbs on trash day! My family has found beautiful furniture and wonderful paintings at the curb.
5. If you need to get a new cell phone, please recycle your old phone. Its not that hard! Just go to your cell phone provider or Best Buy and they will take care of it for you.
6. Don’t throw useable items in the trash! It disgusts me to see people throwing away perfectly good items just because they don’ want it. Donate it to Goodwill, thrift stores, or a homeless shelter. Don’t trash it!
7. Keep your cell phones, computers, and other electronics until they absolutely die! If its not broken then there is no need to get rid of it!
8. Buy quality goods that will last, rather than disposable junk that will fall apart. Purchase good quality furniture or even antiques. Particle board furniture just adds waste our landfills!
9. Make sure showers quicker or shower with a friend! Remember always, RECYCLE, RECYCLE, RECYCLE! Did you know we (America) actually sells our trash to China to be made into other products. At leas we are getting something back from all the products that are shipped over here.
*If you just happen to be on a walk, and just happen to see some trash; maybe you could please pick it up, by the way, I'm sure there will be a grocery bag hanging from some tree nearby, you can put the trash in that. Please do these simple steps! Our earth will thank you and I Thank you!!
