Regiere's current situation:

Hey! I’m Regiere and I’m from Alton, Illinois. I’m 22 and I recently graduated from Northern Illinois University with a degree in political science with an emphasis in politics and pre-law. I live in Alton with my dad, mom, two younger sisters, and my cat and dog, which may as well be like people, because I secretly believe that they think of themselves that way. I plan on returning to either law school or graduate school in August 2012 which will give me the next year to really decide what it is I want to do with my future, while also enjoying a much needed break from school. (My life has been in 9 and 3 month intervals since I was 4; I think a break is understandable at this point) But anyway, in the meantime, I am currently interning with Alton Marketplace. I get to help plan block parties, bring talent to the area, boost my resume while getting my foot in the door in the political arena, all while having a ton of fun in the proces s. Not a bad deal if you ask me!

As much as I hated to leave college, it was definitely the most amazing 4 years of my life. The friends that I made there, as well as the experiences I had both good and bad, helped me to understand more about myself and how I interact with the world around me. I was a community advisor (CA), which is the same as a resident assistant (RA) at most other universities, and my time spent working with first year and transfer students was absolutely amazing!! Though we knew nothing about each other in the beginning, by the end of the year, I felt that we had built a great floor community, which was evident when other residents from different floors across campus wanted to become a part of our residential community.

I’m a lot of fun, and I definitely love meeting new people. Talking is one of my favorite things to do, and I never back away from the chance to talk to someone, especially if it involves Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean, or Back to the Future. (all my favorite movies BTW) But I like to just talk to people in general; you’d be surprised what you can find out from someone in the first 5-10 minutes of meeting them, which I find incredibly interesting. I am in love with thrill rides, and I have never met a roller coaster that I didn’t walk up to and ride without fear, and then repeat the process (as long as the line wasn’t too long anyway) But mostly I just like to live life each day as if it were my last. I think it is important to try and recognize that tomorrow is not promised to any of us, so we may as well live, love, and laugh in the moment. And I’m always trying to remember this each and every day. I do not know what tomorrow holds, but I do know that I control my destiny, so while I am here, I may as well make it count! Well I’m pretty sure that’s more than enough info about myself, so I’m gonna get back to my Harry Potter movie marathon. (These movies never get old) :)

Regiere's blog post:

Okay, so I know we’ve all heard it before, our generation is” lazy, unmotivated, always wanting something for nothing…” and you and I both know the list goes on and on! In a world where our generation is “represented by reality t.v. “stars”, it is really difficult to prove ourselves. But how do we do it? Where do we even begin? I find myself asking these questions all the time. I would love to snap my fingers and live in a mansion overlooking my own private beach, and drive a ridiculously expensive sports car, but I live in the real world. (Not to be mistaken with the MTV reality show) So I’ll just call it the “realistic” world, AKA the reality the rest of us live in whether we want to accept it or not. This is a world where we know dancing on tables on national television will not help us get a professional job, where we realize that spending our money like it is going out of style will not lead to a successful financial future, and where I aspire to be someone, but recognize that it will take hard work and determination. In this world, people aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty; if you can dream it, and are willing to put forth the effort and had work, you can achieve it. Totally cliché, I know, but I’m pretty sure people wouldn’t still be saying it if it wasn’t true.

Sometimes, I feel that we have it 10,000 times harder than our parents. Maybe they’ve forgotten, but it is not 1982 anymore, when good paying jobs required little to no education, and seemed to fall out of the sky. There were good benefits, health insurance, and great 401K, but times have changed. Not only are the benefits being cut, but once we finally get a job, we will be working until we’re 100, and if we ever do see retirement, we will have NO social security to collect from the good ol’ government! UGH!!! Times are tough, and sometimes I look around at the mess we’ve been handed and get discouraged. But it helps to know that my generation has the tools to fix it. We’re up for the challenge, and we have so much to offer. We have great ideas and have learned from the mistakes of our past. It’s time for a new generation to do what needs to be done and I think we’re definitely ready to take the bull by the horns and get to work. We just need the opportunity to prove ourselves and the rest will fall into place!

The world may think that we are lazy, unmotivated, and always wanting something for nothing, but in all actuality, we are talented, smart, and creative. And despite what they may assume about us, we are more than capable of getting the job done and saving the world!! But that’s all for now. Gotta go!

So working hard and getting your hands dirty means trying to have sex with my husband at your job? Hmm...
